Coach Zboran has lived in the Freeport district since 1986 and has been a runner for over 25 years, logging thousands of miles at local road races from 5k’s to marathons. In 2007, Joe, along with his wife Beth, a teacher at FHS, petitioned permission from the school board to start the Freeport Junior High Running Club. Their daughter, Kayla, was the first club member of the club. The club served as an introduction to the sport of cross country for young runners and a feeder program for the high school team. The junior high running club eventually became an official WPIAL Freeport Middle School Cross Country Team in 2016. He also was integral in starting the summer mini-camp which also helps to introduce interested 5th through 8th grade students to the sport. A dedicated member of the cross country boosters, he served as president from 2010 to 2013 and continues to help maintain and mark the course each season. During track season you can find Coach Zboran in the scoring tent for all home meets.
